Sustainable Coffee

WHAT'S SUSTAINABLE COFFEE?
Put simply, there are three P’s in sustainable coffee – people, planet and profit. All of which need to be addressed ethically in order to maintain an ethical coffee supply without the depletion of natal resources. 
Sustainable coffee is an accountability of economic, social and environmental factors from source to sip, in pursuit of a cup of coffee which can be maintained for future generations. 
WHY DOES SUSTAINABLE COFFEE MATTER?
Sustainability is THE pressing issue in our industry. The problem is rife across the whole hospo industry! With over 250,000 tonnes of waste from cafes/restaurants ending up in landfills every year. We all need to pick up our game y'all. The stat that really gets me is 60-80% of that could be diverted to compost 😰 Some environmentalists are predicting coffee could be exist by 2050  ♻️
SO IT'S IMPORTANT, SO HOW ARE YOU SUSTAINABLE?

We channel sustainability from start to finish. We only buy green coffee that are Ethically sourced. It is certified by the importers as Rain Forrest Alliance or Fair Trade Organic or we use artisan importers who specialise in ethical sourcing. It's important our coffee farmers are fairly paid AND they use sustainable farming practices.

We pack using compostable packaging or for our wholesale customer, reusable food-grade drums. We stamp our packs with re-used non-toxic ink and it's sent by carbon neutral courier, Sendle. For our wholesale family, we pick up your used coffee grind and compost it! End of life is HUGE for your environmental impact! More on ALL of this to come 😉

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR YOUR BAGS AND MAILERS TO BREAK DOWN?
Our bag and mailers are certified home compostable and the valve is industrial compostable. In a ‘standard’ home compost, the pouches have been certified to disintegrate after 12 weeks and completely biodegrade within 180 days, i.e. approximately 6 months. Under commercial composting conditions, it would happen much faster. And as litter (e.g. under a tree) it would compost slower, but it will still happen. We threw standard in commas there because It's situational. There are a lot of factors in composting (temperature, time of year, what's in your compost etc.) so it could be shorter or longer!

Having us on your side is a good start! We're happy to consult and analyse areas like your waste, suppliers and habits to see what you're doing and give you actionable steps to improve your business.

Orders & Roasting 

CAN I REUSE THE PACKAGING OR CAN I USE MY OWN JAR/CONTAINER?
ACTUALLY?! YEES! This is something that actually excites us. The best way to do that is to send us a message to organise a time to swing past the Roastery so we can refill your CB packet or your jar!!
HOW OFTEN DO YOU ROAST? HOW DO YOU MAINTAIN FRESH COFFEE?
We batch roast everything! Small roasts several times a week to make sure we don't have any wastage and you have fresh coffee!
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET MY COFFEE? STANDARD DELIVERY.
Depends which day of the week you order! We dispatch coffee twice a week, Monday and Wednesday. It's our perfect balance between getting your coffee for the weekend and making sure YOU get fresh coffee! We don't want our coffee sitting in a rando delivery van (in the sun) over the weekend. Shipping windows are 2-8 working days but Sendle are pretty good!
BUT WHAT IF I HAVE A CAFFEINE EMERGENCY? EXPRESS DISPATCH AND EXPRESS SHIPPING.
We're no economists but caffeine keeps the Australian economy growing (we're almost certain that's how it works), so we REALLY appreciate a caffeine emergency. This emergency option is express dispatch and express  delivery. Same day dispatch up to 1pm (any day of the week), and express shipping;
Sydney Locals: If you're in a 10km radius of the roastery (AKA the caffeine line) and order before 1pm you will receive your order that day.

Interstate and Sydney people outside the caffeine line: We will dispatch your order the same day (if you order before 2pm), and ship it express with Australia Post. 


Shipping Information

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET MY COFFEE?
Depends which day of the week you order! We dispatch coffee twice a week, Monday and Wednesday. It's our perfect balance between getting your coffee for the weekend and making sure YOU get VERY fresh coffee! We don't want our coffee sitting in a rando delivery van (in the sun) over the weekend. Shipping windows are 2-8 working days but Sendle are pretty good! Many people get it the next day.
WHAT SHIPPING METHODS ARE AVAILABLE?
All of our shipping is fulfilled via Australia Post or Sendle, it depends on your location! Both companies carbon offset their shipping! If you're a Sydney local or in a metro location Sendle will look after your orders, if you're outside those city limits, Aus Post have you covered.... Nathan is also known to drop off an order on his way home to say hi, get feedback, give you coffee tips and see if he can tailor the coffee to your needs!
CAN I PICK UP MY ORDER? 
YES! We're at the roastery most days of the week but you need to select the pick-up option from check out and we will email you to confirm a time.
DO YOU SHIP INTERNATIONALLY?
Yep, Straya. Due to the nature of producing fresh and high-quality coffee, we are an Australian only business sorry. If you love our cause and want to see Community Bean Coffee take off, why not buy some for your Australian mate?

HOW DO I TRACK MY ORDER?
Once we have packed your order, we will dispatch it with either Australia Post or Sendle, and send you the tracking number with our fulfilment email so you can keep a track of it.

WOULD YOU TAKE BEANS FOR CASH?
No we don't sorry! Even if you pick up from the coffee roastery we put everything through the website so that every bean is accounted for.... we're practically bean counters.
